Turkey 3-0 Hungary: Turks down ten-man Hungary
Group C
Turkey 3 - 0 Hungary, Goals + Highlights
Turkey beat 10-man Hungary 3-0 in their Euro 2008 qualifier on Wednesday to stay firmly in the race to qualify from Group C for next year's finals.
Turkey piled on the pressure right from the start but the turning point came in the 63rd minute when Hungarian forward Zoltan Gera was sent off for a second yellow card, awarded for a dive in the penalty area.
Turkey took full advantage, breaking the deadlock five minutes later when young forward Gokhan Unal headed home a cross from Tuncay Sanli from the left wing.
Four minutes later, Emre Belozoglu fed the ball through for Brazil-born Mehmet Aurelio to make sure of the points. Halil Altintop hit the third in stoppage time.
It was Turkey's first match at home in the Euro 2008 qualifiers after having to play three games behind closed doors on neutral territory due to a FIFA ban imposed for a brawl after a World Cup qualifying playoff with Switzerland in November 2005 in Istanbul.
The result leaves Turkey third in the group with 17 points, just behind Norway, also on 17 but having played a game more. Holders Greece are top with 19 points, while Hungary are a distant fifth on nine points.
